
Azerbaijan has been elected a member of the Board of Guardians of the World Post Union (WPU) for Eastern Europe and North Asian region. By a majority of votes employee of at Azerbaijan`s Communication and Information Technologies Ministry Nasir Hamidov won a membership bid against Georgian and Romanian candidates.
The voting involving participation of representatives of 40 countries of WPU’s Postal Operations Council was undisclosed. Three countries did not participate in the voting. The Board of Guardians considers and controls implementation of projects, developed by postal administrations within WPU’s service quality Fund.
Membership at WPU gives Azerbaijan a good opportunity to develop and ensure financing of reforms aimed at improving the country postal system.
