Tourists ‘leave’ about one billion manat in Azerbaijan

Last year, foreign tourists brought to Azerbaijan about 966.3 million manat, Culture and Tourism Ministry’s department head  Aydin Ismiyev said at the board meeting on the  results of ‘Year of Tourism’ announced in the country.

He said the figure rose by 26 percent compared to 2010. The number of those visiting Azerbaijan in 2011 hit 2,239,141, of which over 1.8 million were just tourists.

The number of hotels and hotel-type facilities grew to 515 compared to 2010, when the figure was 499. Currently, another 45 hotels are under construction. There are 178 travel agencies in the country. In 2005 there were 197, in 2006 – 240, in 2007 - 255, 2008 - 230, and in 2009 - 218.
