20 February 2012 [15:18] - TODAY.AZ
Preparation of the Greater Baku Regional Development Plan will cost $5.72 million. Deputy chairman of the State Construction & Architecture Committee of Azerbaijan Dovlekhan Dovletkhanov says that by the end of 2011 it was spent only 10.31% of all finances provided for Plan making.

"Total cost of the Plan is defined at the level of $5.7 million, and by the end of 2011 it was spent only $590,000 of them," he said He said that the Regional Development Plan of Greater Baku would be commissioned in 2013.

The Plan focuses on the "Big Baku", as the old plan of Baku covered graphic principles and the concept of 22,000 hectares of the capital, although the actual area of Baku is more than 219,000 hectares. The last General Plan of Baku was adopted in 1987.

The Plan includes the future development of Baku, Sumgait and Apsheron peninsula for the next 20 years. Similar projects have been realized in some countries of Eastern Europe, but none of them covered the capital together with the suburban regions. The most important thing is that this project will cover a region with the population of over 3 million people. When planning it will be used new technologies, for example, use of geographic-information system.
