Shimal power plant to be completed in 2013

Work on the construction of the second power plant Shimal, which plays an important role in providing electricity to Baku, scheduled for completion before the end of 2013, Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan)told Trend on Friday.

It is stated in the information than creation of a second power unit of 400 MW is conducted in accordance with the schedule.

"Works are being implemented in accordance with the schedule and will be completed by the end of 2013," Azerenergy said.

Previously, it was decided to build a second 400-megawatt power unit in accordance with a contract signed with the Japanese firm Toyo Engineering. The ceremony of laying the foundation of a new unit was held on September 21, 2011.

A new 220-kilowatt transmission line will be constructed and a number of substations, ensuring energy security of the Absheron Peninsula and the whole power system as a whole, will be built within the commissioning of the second power unit.

Capacity of power plants owned by the Azerenergy exceeds 6 thousand megawatt. There are more than 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kilovolts, as well as six hydroelectric and 13 thermal power plants at the balance of the JSC.
