Cargo transit via Azerbaijan jumps

Cargo transit through Azerbaijan totaled 1.59 million tons for January or 10% of the volume for 2011. In 2011 transit reached 15.9 million tons versus 9.45 million tons in 2010, 6.68 million tons in 2009, 6.595 million tons in 2008 and 5.99 million tons in 2007. As a result, last year transit grew 1.681 fold against the 2010 level.

The State Customs Committee (SCC) informs that in January in the course of export and import operations it was transported 4.739 million tons of cargo (+13.3% against January 2011).

In 2011 such carriages made up 59.7 million tons of cargo versus 45.6 million tons in 2010.

This January 2.347 million tons accounted for export against 34.7 million tons in 2011 and 37.7 million tons in 2010, while 803,366 tons accounted for import versus 9.106 million and 7.9 million respectively.

Export by sea made up 21,967 tons, by rail 215,442 tons, by road 39,698 tons, by air 280 tons, and via pipelines 2.07 million tons.

Import included 537,652 tons by rail, 130,133 tons by road, 129,174 tons by sea, and 1,247 tons by air.
