23 June 2015 [13:46] - TODAY.AZ

The Baku 2015 first European Games surpassed all expectations, Spartaco Bertoletti, sports journalist from Milan (Italy) told Trend.

"I was surprised by seeing Baku,” he said. “We did not expect this. We did not expect such organizing of the first European Games either."

“Azerbaijan will likely want to organize a larger sporting event, such as, for example, the Olympic Games,” he said.

"The very good infrastructure, transport system, the accommodation conditions have been created," he said.

Bertoletti said that he covered numerous Olympic Games.

He said that it was a very good idea to conduct a large-scale sporting event and to include Olympic and non-Olympic kinds of sports in its program.

Bertoletti said that people worldwide will know more about Azerbaijan following the first European Games.

“I liked Azerbaijan,” he said. “Azerbaijani people are very hospitable,” he said.

The journalist also said that despite many differences, Italy and Azerbaijan have some common features.

The European Games t kicked off in Baku June 12 and will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
