Another Azerbaijani athlete, Amil Gasimov, competing in men’s -74 kg sambo event, advanced to the semifinals at the First European Games in Baku June 22.
In the quarterfinals, Gasimov gained a flawless victory over Georgia’s Kakha Mamulashvili, 10:0.
Earlier, four Azerbaijani athletes, Islam Gasumov (-57 kg), Kanan Gasimov (-90 kg), Nazakat Khalilova (-52 kg) and Vasif Safarbayov (+100 kg) advanced to the semifinals in the sambo event.
In the quarterfinals, Khalilova defeated Romania’s Codrina Ionescu, 4:1. Gasumov gained a flawless victory over Romania’s Orlando Gruia, 9:0, while Kanan Gasimov defeated Ivan Vasylchuk (Ukraine), 2:1.
Safarbayov also gained a flawless victory over Bajro Mashovikj (Macedonia), 8:0 in the quarterfinals.
The European Games that kicked off June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
