Azerbaijani athlete, Irina Netreba reached the ¼ finals in the women’s 58 kg freestyle wrestling at the Baku 2015 European Games.
In the 1/8 finals, she defeated Italian Carola Rainero with a score of 8:4 and proceeded to the ¼ finals.
In the ¼ finals, she will face Bulgarian Mimi Hristova.
Another Azerbaijani wrestler, Elmira Gambarova, who competes in the women’s 63 kg freestyle wrestling at the Games, lost in the 1/8 finals to the Swedish wrestler, Henna Johansson.
Three athletes of Azerbaijan will compete in the women’s wrestling on Tuesday, June 16, at the Baku 2015 European Games.
Azerbaijan will be represented at the wrestling events by Anzhela Dorogan (53 kg), Irina Netreba (58 kg), Elmira Gambarova (63 kg).
Azerbaijan already has two medals in the women’s wrestling events. Earlier, Mariya Stadnyk (48 kg) grabbed a gold medal, while Natalya Sinishin (55 kg) finished with a bronze medal.
In the men’s Greco-Roman wrestling, the Azerbaijani wrestlers won two medal sets: Rasul Chunayev (71 kg) and Elvin Mursaliyev (75 kg) won gold medals, Rafig Huseynov (80 kg) and Sabahi Shariati (130 kg) won silver medals, while Elman Mukhtarov (59 kg) and Hasan Aliyev (66 kg) won bronze medals.
The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.
There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
