The first European Games in Baku is of great importance, British female gymnast Charlie Fellows told Trend June 15.

She said that she is proud to participate in competitions in the UK team.

Fellows went on to add that the first European Games is a great experience for the athletes. “Strong gymnasts compete here, there is an intense struggle for the medals,” she said. “Of course, such strong competitions have a great influence on the development of athletes.”

She said that it is her first visit to Azerbaijan, and she liked the country. “I am coming to Azerbaijan for the first time,” said Fellows. “Azerbaijan is a very beautiful country, people are very hospitable and kind, and I really enjoy my stay in this country. Excellent conditions were created here for us.”

The European Games kicked off in Baku June 12 and will last till June 28.

There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
