Albert II, Prince of Monaco has praised the opening ceremony of the Baku 2015 European Games.
In an exclusive interview with Trend, Albert II said that it was a beautiful opening ceremony, a perfection, illustration of Azerbaijan’s culture and the spirit of the country.
“I think, we were all expecting that there will be a wonderful ceremony, but it was beyond our expectations,” he told Trend. “It was very interesting, moving, bringing everybody together.”
He also said that the world media works in strange way sometimes.
“They focus on what is in front of them, sometimes not on even worse things going on elsewhere,” he said. “They tend to forget about them. It is unfair.”
“I am sure you will be able to bring to the world that reality is different,” Albert II added.
He also said that the Azerbaijani capital of Baku is a beautiful city, mentioning there is a beautiful old town, other great constructions and buildings.
Albert II added that Baku is a very modern city, and it impresses not only for its past, but also for its future.
The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.
There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
