The training level of the rowers to represent Azerbaijan in the First European Games is sufficiently high and allows to count on medals, spokesperson of Azerbaijan National Rowing Federation Elshan Mammadov told Trend June 9.
He said that seven athletes will represent Azerbaijan is the rowing competitions in the European Games.
“We will be represented by four canoeists and three kayakers,” said Mammadov.
He said the training has almost completed, adding that the athletes were in training sessions in Belmeken, Bulgaria in January. “Following this, they took part in the European Championships and the next stage of training for them was held in Gabala, Azerbaijan.
Currently, they are preparing for the Games in Mingachevir city and waiting for the start of the rowing competitions that will be held June 14-16, Mammadov added.
He said it is very difficult to assess the chances of the athletes in advance, since anything can happen in sports.
Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
