Journey of the Flame cheers Azerbaijan

The Baku 2015 European Games is cheering the country with the Journey of the Flame. Visiting more regions and acquainting more people with this historic event, Baku 2015 team shares joy with everyone.

The Baku 2015 torch already toured Goygol, Ganja, Dashkasan and Samukh regions.

The official Flame of the inaugural European Games was welcomed to Goygol by hundreds of local residents.

At the symbolic gate of the European Games, the Flame was accepted by local teacher, Tahmina Aliyeva.

Ten torchbearers then started their route and carried the Flame into the Heydar Aliyev Center to the sound of wild applause.

Local teacher Vugar Ibrahimov lit the flame of the European Games. The flame was then transferred to a commemorative lamp that will remain on display in the city until the closing ceremony of the Games.

The Flame then continued on its journey to its next destination: Ganja, Azerbaijan’s second largest city.

At the Central Square, the Flame was accepted by Honored Master of Sports, Elchin Zeynalov.

Ten torchbearers then started their route and carried the Flame into an amphitheater in Heydar Aliyev Park to the sound of wild applause.

Olympic freestyle wrestling champion, Toghrul Asgarov lit the Flame of the European Games. The Flame was then transferred to a commemorative lamp that will remain on display in the city until the closing ceremony of the Games.

The event featured a concert, and a demonstration of a footage highlighting the inaugural ceremony of the lighting of the Flame in the Ateshgah temple.

Following, the Flame arrived in Dashkasan. At the symbolic gate of the European Games in the region, the flame was accepted by world weightlifting champion, Khagani Abdullayev.

Ten torchbearers then started their 2km long route and carried the Flame into the Heydar Aliyev Center to the sound of wild applause. Zaur Hasanov lit the Flame of the European Games. The Flame was then transferred to a commemorative lamp that will remain lit in the Heydar Aliyev Center until the end of the Games.

The residents also watched a footage highlighting the ceremony of the lighting of the Flame.

The Flame then continued its journey to its next destination: Samukh.

At the symbolic gate of the European Games in the region, the Flame was handed to Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling champion, Anar Jalilov.

Ten torchbearers then started their route and carried the Flame into the Heydar Aliyev Park to the sound of wild applause.

World kickboxing champion, Elnur Salamov lit the Flame of the European Games. The Flame was then transferred to a commemorative lamp that will remain lit in Heydar Aliyev Center until the end of the Games.

The Flame of Baku 2015 started its journey around the regions of Azerbaijan on April 26. Until June 12, it will visit about 60 regions and cheer thousands of locals with the spirit of the inaugural European Games.

Baku 2015 European Games will gather over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 20 sports, including 16 Olympic.
