Terter welcomes flame of Baku 2015

The flame of the Baku 2015 European Games that is traveling around the country has arrived in Terter.

At the symbolic gate of the European Games in the region, the Flame was passed to sports teacher of the Kangarli village secondary school, Rasif Abbasov.

Following, ten torchbearers started their 4 kilometers long route and carried the Flame into the Central Square to the sound of wild applause. European boxing champion, Faig Mammadov lit the flame of the European Games.

The event featured the demonstration of a footage highlighting a ceremony to light the flame of the Baku 2015 first European Games held in the Ateshgah temple.

The event was followed by a concert.

The Flame of Baku 2015 started its journey around the regions of Azerbaijan on April 26. Until June 12, it will visit about 60 regions and cheer thousands of locals with the spirit of the inaugural European Games.

Baku 2015 European Games will gather over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 20 sports, including 16 Olympic.

Terter region is located in the lower reaches of the Terter River - at the north it is bound to the Indja river. With moderate up to hot of semi desert and deserted climate, both the Terter and Khachichay rivers come as a welcome relief to local populations.

The center of the region stays on the right and left banks of the Terter river, just on the ancient caravan track. The historical name of this area was Chaparhana. There were a caravanserai and a fortress locate 17 km away from the ancient capital of the Alban state – Barda.

The Terter region has 24 historical and architectural monuments to show its guests. All monuments are located in different villages. One of them has worldwide importance, fifteen, state importance, while all others have local importance.

The region is famous for its carpet weaving, embroidery and knitting.
